Freestyle Calisthenics Workout

I was so sore after the 5B’s Pull-up Jam this past Saturday that I actually decided to take a few days off from training. Though it’s common for me to train every day, we all need to rest once in a while. My body was telling me to take it easy, so I listened!

After taking the time to fully recharge, I went to the one and only Tompkins Square Park this morning for a freestyle calisthenics workout. I worked on all different kinds of push-ups, including handstand push-ups as well as front levers, muscle-ups and dips.

Nice video, you should release a soundtrack album, “Songs From and Inspired By Al Kavadlo.”

Love those last pull ups – did you pick that up from Jamie Lewis?

    • By Al Kavadlo -

Thanks, Jim.  I actually recorded the music for this using the Frankenstein guitar pick you gave me.

And no, I didn’t get the pull-ups from Jamie Lewis.  I’ve been doing pull-ups on scaffolding for a long time.

Oh, I couldn’t tell.  He does this thing from a power rack that’s similar.  I should have figured you would have nailed the Spider-Man trick long before him anyway, lol.

Very cool, you’ve gotten really good at the handstand push ups. I can only balance for one right now, I wont say I can really do them until I can do at least 3 in a row (can do atleast 10 leaning agains a wall though).

Thanks, Blair.  The FSHSPU takes so much practice – some days I still struggle with it.  If you can get even one good rep, you’re off to a great start!
